Soak white chickpeas overnight. Cook in a pressure cooker for 20 minutes or till chickpeas get softer. Heat oil in a heavy saucepan, add cumin seeds, asafoetida, ginger, garlic, chopped onions. Fry till lightly browned. Add salt, garam masala and stir well. Add tomatoes and cook till oil separates. Put cooked chickpeas and add water. Add clove-cinnamon powder. Cook in slow heat for 10 minutes. Garnish with chopped coriander and onion rings. Serve it piping hot with naan or rotis.
